Microdosing for ADHD?
A recent study has revealed intriguing findings about the use of psychedelic microdosing in the treatment of ADHD. Published in the Frontiers in Psychiatry Journal, this research involved 233 individuals diagnosed with ADHD or exhibiting severe symptoms, with approximately one-third of them regularly taking ADHD medication.
The majority of the study's participants (77.8%) chose to microdose with psilocybin, with an average dose of 722 mg. After a period of four weeks, those who microdosed showed a notable increase in mindfulness, particularly in terms of acting with awareness and not judging their inner experiences.
They also experienced a decrease in neuroticism, or emotional instability. Interestingly, those who combined microdosing with traditional ADHD medications reported similar improvements in mindfulness, suggesting that microdosing could be a viable complement to conventional ADHD treatments.
While the study indicated that personality traits were largely unaffected, it points to microdosing as a potential alternative therapeutic approach.
This approach highlights the possibility of integrating both standard medications and psychedelics into a more holistic treatment strategy for ADHD.
The findings of this study encourage a cautious yet optimistic view towards more personalized approaches in managing ADHD, expanding the scope beyond traditional pharmaceutical treatments.
